Hey stranger!

I’ve decided to make a series of blog posts to talk about the diversity in portrait photography and what makes them unique. I started this series with the post about What is Headshot Photography?. You can check that one out if you want to learn about headshots and their characteristics. Now, without further-ado let’s talk about Corporate Portrait Photography or Corporate Portraiture.

What is Corporate Portraiture?

Corporate portraiture is a type of portrait photography that is used for business purposes, such as for corporate headshots or branding images. It's an incredibly important aspect of any business, as it helps to establish a professional image and create a cohesive brand identity.

But corporate portraiture isn't just about taking a formal headshot in a suit and tie. It's about showcasing the personality and values of a company and its employees. It's about capturing the spirit and culture of a business in a way that is relatable and approachable.

Key Elements in Corporate Photography:

One of the key elements of successful corporate portraiture is authenticity. It's important to capture the true essence of a company and its employees, rather than trying to create a fabricated image. This means that you, as the photographer, should take the time to get to know the company and its people, so that they can truly understand what makes them unique. And by knowing what makes them unique, you are 10 steps ahead towards guiding your client and fulfilling their vision and values.

Another important aspect of corporate portraiture is versatility. The images should be able to be used in a variety of different contexts, such as on a company's website, social media platforms, marketing materials, and even in print media. This means that the photographer should be able to capture a range of different looks and styles, depending on the needs of the business. By knowing the needs of the company, you know the deliverables formats and quantities, this is why it’s important to always shoot in vertical and horizontal formats.

One of the great things about corporate portraiture is that it allows businesses to show their personality and values in a way that is much more approachable and human than traditional marketing materials. By featuring real people in their corporate portraits, businesses can establish a strong connection with their customers and clients, and create a sense of trust and authenticity. This sense of personality and authenticity can vary from client to client, some will want to evoke strong and traditional values, others may want to portray young and alternative personalities. These characteristics will also define the style of your photography.

But corporate portraiture isn't just about creating a great image for the business. It's also about creating a positive experience for the employees who are being photographed. A good corporate portrait photographer will make the process fun and enjoyable, and will put the employees at ease so that they can relax and be themselves.

Takeaways:

So what makes a great corporate portrait?

  • When taking a portrait, keep in mind that the goal is to capture the spirit of the company and its employees, the heart of the company. Then, whether it's a formal headshot or a more casual, lifestyle-style image, present it in an authentic, relatable, and approachable manner.

In conclusion, corporate portraiture is an incredibly important aspect of any business. It helps to establish a professional image and create a cohesive brand identity, and allows businesses to showcase their personality and values in a way that is relatable and approachable. By capturing the unique spirit and culture of a company and its employees, a great corporate portrait can create a strong connection with customers and clients, and help to establish trust and authenticity.

So, if you're a business looking to create a great corporate portrait, make sure to choose a photographer who understands your company's values and is able to capture the essence, unique spirit and personality of your business and its people.
